How to Play Disney Lorcana
Lorcana is Ravensburger and Disney's flagship TCG. You play as an "Illumineer" using ink to summon Disney characters, send them on quests to gather lore, and challenge your opponent's board. First to 20 lore wins.
I Game Objective
Be the first player to gather 20 lore.
II Building Your Deck
Deck size
Exactly 60 cards. No sideboard.
Card types
- Character
- Disney characters you put into play. They have a Strength (damage they deal), Willpower (damage they can take before being banished), and often a Lore value (gained when they quest).
- Action
- One-shot effects, discarded after resolving. Some Actions are also Songs and can be sung by Characters of appropriate cost instead of paying ink.
- Item
- Persistent cards with ongoing abilities or once-per-turn activations.
- Location
- Persistent locations Characters can move to, often generating lore over time or providing buffs.
Deck restrictions
- Maximum 4 copies of any card with the same full name (name + version).
- Your deck may contain cards from at most 2 of the 6 inks (Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, Steel).
- Deck must be exactly 60 cards.
III Setting Up the Game
- Shuffle your deck and present it to your opponent for a cut.
- Determine the first player.
- Each player draws 7 cards.
Starting hand
7 cards.
Mulligan
Once, you may choose any number of cards from your starting hand to shuffle back into your deck. Then draw that same number of cards. You only get one mulligan.
IV Turn Flow
- Beginning Phase
- Ready all your exerted cards, resolve any "at the start of your turn" effects, then draw 1 card. The first player skips the draw on their first turn.
- Main Phase
- In any order: ink a card (once per turn, choosing one inkable card from your hand and placing it in your inkwell), play Characters/Items/Locations, quest with ready Characters to earn their lore, challenge opposing exerted Characters, and sing Songs.
- End of Turn
- Resolve end-of-turn triggers. If you have more than 7 cards in hand, you do not have to discard — there is no hand size limit.
V Good to Know
- Only cards with the inkwell symbol on the corner can be placed into your inkwell.
- Characters have "drying ink" — they cannot quest, challenge, or use ⟳ abilities the turn they are played, unless they have Rush (for challenges) or similar keywords.
- Challenging exerts your Character and deals mutual damage. Damage stays on Characters between turns until they're banished or healed.
